Over the last 55 years the concrete industry has done an outstanding job in "hiding" the remnants of coal-fired plants ~ with a product called Fly Ash. And in so doing, we've found the addition of small, reactive fines fly ash provides actually supplements concrete with tighter, denser pores and helps combat different forms of corrosion into the concrete matrix and negatively affecting steel reinforcement. Well today, there isn't that much quality fly ash available here in the Western United States. So we broaden the definition to include larger, bottom ash.
